The Medical Causes and Solutions of ADD and ADHD

The Medical Causes and Solutions of ADD and ADHD

Written by Rhett Bergeron, MD

If you struggle to focus on the work at hand, or if you have a child with ADD or ADHD, there are many possible causes. Yes, discipline can be one of those causes. But there’s a lot more to these problems than you might expect. In fact, there could be a number of medical issues causing the problem.

The first area you’ve got to look at is nutrition. You wouldn’t believe how many problems poor nutrition can cause. And, yes, in our world of abundance, we still don’t get enough of the right foods and nutrients. First, look at how much junk food you eat. This includes anything with large amounts of sugar, high fructose corn syrup, white flour, processed foods, and soft drinks.

In addition to a poor diet, many people are deficient in certain nutrients and minerals that can cause problems. I see a lot of vitamin B12 deficiency. Most people don’t get enough omega-3 fatty acids (fish oil) and minerals, such as magnesium.

And even when your diet is great, you could have food allergies causing the problem. The most common food allergens are eggs, wheat/gluten, dairy products, peanuts, and soy. But a number of foods could be causing problems. Have your doctor give you an extensive allergy test to determine what foods you or your child need to avoid.

After nutrition, look at your history of infections and antibiotic use. If your problems started after a round of antibiotics, the drugs could have killed off a significant portion of your intestinal flora (good bacteria in your gut). This can disrupt digestion, cause yeast and bad bacteria overgrowth, and increase food allergies.

If these suggestions aren’t enough, consider toxins that have accumulated in your body. Heavy metals are abundant in city water supplies. Food additives can also accumulate in your body – as can other types of chemicals and environmental toxins, such as mold, pesticides, and herbicides. Even vaccines, which contain mercury, can cause problems. out.

And finally, consider how much stimulation you or your child is receiving. Over-stimulation can affect anyone. And our world is full of constant noise and frequencies that can impact our minds and our bodies. TV, Game Boys (and other video games), computers, and even highly stimulative music can cause serious problems. We see this particular problem with our son. We’ve had to train him to limit these stimuli and to use discernment about how often he should be around them. It’s hard work, but it definitely helps.

It’s usually not just one of these factors that’s involved in these cases. We often have to look at many or all of them together. So to find out what’s at the core of your child’s ADD or ADHD, look at all these factors before you turn to drugs. Drugs simply treat the symptoms and mask the problem. By working through these issues with my patients, I almost never have to prescribe the drugs.

These Two Nutrients Can Overcome Your Family Link to Cancer

These Two Nutrients Can Overcome Your Family Link to Cancer

If your parents or grandparents have had cancer, it doesn’t mean you are destined to have the same cancer. There are many things you can do to cut the family link. One of the easiest is to take two flavonoids that appear to stop the family-cancer link.

Researchers recently tested the nutrients curcumin and quercetin on people who suffer from familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP). FAP is a genetic predisposition for colon polyps. People with FAP can have literally hundreds of polyps in their colon. And they are some of the most susceptible to developing colon cancer.

In this study, the researchers gave five FAP sufferers 480 mg of curcumin and 20 mg of quercetin. They instructed the participants to take this dose three times daily for six months. After the six months, the researchers evaluated the size and number of polyps and compared the results to the beginning of the study.

What they found was amazing! All five of the participants saw their number of polyps decrease by an average of 60+%. And the polyps that did remain were 51% smaller. None of the participants experienced any side effects from the nutrients.

While this is a small study, its results are fabulous news for anyone with a family history of cancer. I’ve used both of these nutrients for years because of their ability to reduce inflammation. And they’re powerful antioxidants. So it’s very likely they would work to reduce your risk of any cancer, especially if you’re worried about your family’s medical history.

I can’t guarantee that these flavonoids will stop all cancer, especially if you don’t take care of your body with a good diet and exercise. But the nutritional value of these two supplements can greatly enhance your body’s ability to keep cancer away. They are cheap, easy to find in any health food store, and safe enough to take every day.

Curing Cataracts with Eye Drops!

432301063_af6b827524.jpg

Curing Cataracts with Eye Drops! By Dr. Rhett Bergeron,MD

Cataract surgery has come a long way in recent years. It’s come so far that most people in this country who develop cataracts don’t go blind. But that’s not true in many developing countries. In fact, cataracts are the leading cause of blindness worldwide. Cataracts form when the lens of the eye clouds. Cataract surgery removes the lens and replaces it with an implant.

Some opt for using glasses instead of the implant. Either way, vision is close to normal after the surgery. And now, medical missionaries may have a new way to give hope to the blind in places where surgery is not an option.

This new treatment is a special eye drop that chemically displaces the cataract rather than surgically remove it. The drops are made out an injected pancreatic enzyme, which dissolves the small fibers that hold the lens in place. It injected drops displace the cloudy lens just below the pupil. At that point, the patient can use glasses to see normally.

Dr. Louis Girard, an 82-year-old former professor and chairman of ophthalmology at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, says the eye drops definitely work. He also said it will become the simplest and most inexpensive way of curing cataract blindness. In fact, the therapy costs just $3 per person.

Currently, the eye drop has to be injected into the eye, so it has to be administered by an ophthalmologist. However, Girard is hoping to make it into a drop or ointment that can be administered by any health professional, including nurses and social assistants.

While surgery is still the most effective way to restore eyesight, it’s possible the day may come when submitting to surgery is a last resort. And this treatment holds great promise for medical missionaries who have been frustrated by cataract-induced blindness.

The best eye drops I’ve found use an amino acid called glutathione. Your body produces glutathione naturally. But, as we age, our levels drop considerably. This is why cataracts typically form in people over the age of 50.

It’s tough to increase your glutathione levels sufficiently to reverse cataracts. One reason for this is that your body doesn’t absorb glutathione easily. As a result, you have to take extra selenium or a supplement called N-acetyl carnitine (NAC) just to raise your levels. Doctors have found that the best way to improve your eyes is to use a glutathione-based drop. Here again, we had to use NAC to make it work right. But it does work.

The best drops I’ve found are Can-C, made by Innovative Vision Products. You can find these drops at International Aging Systems and other places on the Internet. Make sure you use the drops for at least six months before deciding if they work or not. You can’t reverse a cataract overnight. Some doctors have found that glutathione mixed with vitamin C and DMSO works a little better. But this formula can be hard to find. There’s not a pre-mixed product you can buy. So your doctor has to get a compounding pharmacy to make the mixture.

And it’s tough to find a doctor willing to go to that trouble. If you live near the Atlanta area, and can come by my office, I’ll see if this is the best solution for you. Call my office at 678-990-5401 for more information. If you’ve just found out you have cataracts forming in one or both eyes, start now to fight it with eye drops. You might be able to reverse and completely avoid surgery. Dr. Bergeron is the director of the Covenant Health Clinic in Atlanta, Georgia. Protecting Yourself From A Stroke

PROTECTING YOURSELF FROM A STROKE

By Dr. Rhett Bergeron, MD

Are you concerned about having a stroke? Many people are more worried about having a stroke than about having a heart attack. After all, strokes can kill you. And even if they don’t, they often leave a trail of substantial damage in their wake. Their effects on mental function can leave you unable to live independently. So you definitely want to do all you can to protect yourself from having a stroke. Still, there’s no guarantee that you won’t have one, no matter what you do. And if you do have one, there’s a 70% chance that you’ll suffer major impairment. It’s important to prepare your body not only to survive a stroke but also to keep damage to a minimum. And I’ve got an easy way to do just that.

Scientists studied animals in order to find out the best ways to keep us safe from the debilitating effects of strokes. After they gave animals various nutrients and drugs, they induced stroke. One nutrient did an exceptional job at protecting the animals. That nutrient was coenzyme Q10.

In animal studies, no other substance has topped the results seen with CoQ10. CoQ10 is a powerful antioxidant and is great at neutralizing free radicals. These properties offer great promise for treating and preventing the effects of strokes.

CoQ10 worked wonders for Ruth (real person, fake name), a 69-year-old who suffered from some short-term memory loss and type-2 diabetes. Her doctor told her that if she couldn’t stabilize her blood sugar through her diet, she would have to start taking insulin. Ruth agreed to make changes to her diet. And she also started taking 400 mg of CoQ10 daily.

A month later, Ruth fell on the pavement, hit her head, and suffered a bifrontal cerebral hemorrhage. She was hospitalized, but was released after only a few days because her injury healed so quickly.

Two weeks after that, Ruth fainted, fell badly, went unconscious, and slipped into a coma.

A CT scan found a temporal lobe hemorrhage. This injury wasn’t surprising – it was likely a result of the fall. But the CT scan found something else that was surprising. The cerebral hemorrhage she sustained in her first fall had completely healed!

Ruth also improved quickly from her second fall. After 10 days, she was oriented to name and place. Though she was unable to name the year or the president, she could feed herself and ate all of her meals. After 10 days, the hospital discharged her to a skilled nursing facility.

Ruth is quite similar to many other 69-year-olds. She’s diabetic, doesn’t eat well, and doesn’t follow medical advice closely. But she takes a daily dose of 400 mg of CoQ10. I’m convinced that this nutrient was the reason Ruth recovered so quickly and easily from her injuries.

Animal studies show that CoQ10 protects the brain both before and after a stroke. It’s the only substance that completely protected the animals. It’s more than twice as effective as the next best substance (naloxone). It’s most effective when taken both before and after a stroke.

CoQ10 helps the mitochondria – the cells’ energy-producing “powerhouses” – to work more effectively. Plus, it’s a powerful antioxidant and keeps the body safe from potentially dangerous chemicals. Earlier studies of Parkinson’s disease patients found that CoQ10 decelerates functional deterioration, offering further evidence that the substance protects brain function.

I recommend 400 mg daily to protect against the effects of a stroke. Older adults often suffer from transient ischemic attacks, which leave them susceptible to injury. Failure to supplement with CoQ10 can lead to irreversible damage in the brain, organs, and mitochondria.
